Hi everyone… This email is going out under my name just to help Richie out, but it is really his letter and thanks to all of you for running and/or helping with this race. I for one had a great run … and only messed up the preliminary scoring a little. I've attached the Final Results (after much review) in an Excel format… but if any of you have a problems receiving or reading it, send me a email and I'll send it in some other format. And, of course, it will be posted in a printable form (along with some pictures of the 1st 30 minutes of the race) on the NYUR website before the end of the day.

Thanks… Tim Ryan

Dear Pajama Participant,

Thank you very much for being part of the inaugural Pajama Run last Saturday evening.

I hope you all had fun.  I admit that the event did cause me a few frazzled moments especially beforehand.  The first problem was the pajamas themselves.  There seemed to be an inventory shortage, hence an escalation of cost.  (Thank you for your generous donations to the “pajama pot”.  That was a big boost.)  Our next problem was a shortage of volunteers.  I mentioned at the pre-race instructions that we only had six.  I have to confess that I lied.  What do you expect from a descendent of Gepetto?  We actually had eight.  Maybe I am really related to Dick Van Patten.

Though our volunteers were small in number, they all did a Herculean job.  And to our surprise and delight, a few more unexpected volunteers showed up and were a big help.  You would be amazed how just a couple of reinforcements turn an event around.  That way our original volunteers could take a break, have a snack, could go to the bathroom, could rest their eyes, have a sex change, etc.  Kudos and my deepest gratitude (and I’m sure yours) to all our dedicated volunteers.

Attached please find the race results.  I also apologize that you are receiving this information several days after the event, but there were a few scoring inquiries that had to be addressed.  First, I think we all should offer our thanks to Tim Ryan in compiling the results.  This process took countless hours to review and then tabulate.  I should know, because I use to do it.  Then again I should say that I use to not do it because it would take countless hours.  We all are fortunate that Tim is far more dedicated than I am.

There were few scoring changes and I think one place change.  If you feel there is still a scoring discrepancy, you can contact Tim at  tim.ryan@newyorkultrarunning.org     I also want to inform that the distance totals were not complete at the time of the award ceremony.  The “fraction” portion was not included in the totals.  The fraction tabulations would have only taken 10 more minutes more, but I decided not to have it done.  You all seemed tired and somewhat antsy to get home, and I felt 10 minutes would have seemed like an hour.

One more aspect of the event is that we had far, far (I’m sounding like Dickens) more post entrants than were expected.  And I do greatly thank you for your participation.  I do understand why one does decide at the eleventh hour to post enter.  But you may not be aware that post entries do cause some logistical issues, especially in time events.  After reviewing the chain of events on Saturday, I probably will no longer have any post entry in a time event.  Please make a note of that.

But I do not want the post entries to go empty-handed and still receive some kind of pajama item.  I spoke to our printing vendor about a possible re-order of pajamas, but I was informed that a minimum number was required.  Our vendor is going to try to find another supplier.  Meanwhile, please send me an e-mail (or call) if you prefer a pajama bottom or a pajama short.  And please indicate your desired size for each.  Please be advised that sizing is different between the two items because one has legs.  The sizing for the bottoms comes in XS to XL.  The shorts are small to XL.  You will get something.  But you probably won’t receive it until the end of the month.  I’m going to be very occupied with a moving and a closing in the ensuing weeks.  But I will issue an e-mail when the items are ready to be distributed.

I’m not going to coordinate any more ultra events for the rest of year.  I need to take a break or have a sex change.  The next confirmed ultra in our area is the GLIRC 6-Hour-60th Birthday Run at Sunken Meadow Park in Long Island on Sunday, October 16.  But you can find all your ultra information needs at www.newyorkultrarunning.org.    This site is our best link to our sport.

Enjoy the rest of summer, thanks again and take good care,

Cheers,

Richie
